THE VICAR’S VOICE

Walking the ‘Via Media’ during Lent

I am sitting here thinking about our Annual Meeting, which we had last week, and am once again grateful to all of you for your love and support in our first year together. Much was accomplished in that year and a lot of that had to do with all of your ministries. As this New Year begins, I look forward to continuing our journey, hoping and praying that we continue to grow not only in numbers, but more importantly, spiritually.

Suspect now ‘wired for sound’

Thief nabs church audio equipment

Before choir practice on Thursday, Jan. 20, music minister Paul Sammon walked into the church and went over to the sound-system console in the back of the church to turn on the lights. The light switches were still there, but the audio equipment—amplifier, equalizer, and cassette and CD players—was not.

‘A WORD TO THE CHURCH’

House of Bishops discusses Windsor Report

The House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church met in Salt Lake City on Jan. 12 and 13, and issued the following “Word to the Church” at the conclusion of their meeting.

Prayer shawl ministry starts

Do you like to knit or crochet? We would love to have you join us in the newly formed Prayer Shawl Ministry. We prayerfully make shawls which are blessed by Fr. Peter. The shawls are then taken to persons in need of comfort—perhaps someone facing a terminal illness, the loss of a loved one, or a difficult decision in life.

February Outreach

During the month of February, we will be collecting canned or boxed food items, such as peanut butter, pasta, soups, cereals, canned fruits, etc., to give to Familes Forward. Located in Irvine, Families Forward is dedicated to serving low-income and homeless families in South Orange County so that their children will have a stable home and a chance for a brighter future.

Tsunami relief donations still being accepted

Donations to help those affected by the Boxing Day tsunami in the Indian Ocean can still be made, either to Saint Andrew’s, and we will forward to Episcopal Relief & Development, or via Habitat for Humanity at http://www.habitat.org/giving/donate.aspx.

Recycle aluminum cans and benefit Habitat for Humanity

Recycle your aluminum cans and help Habitat for Humanity in the process. (And it’s tax-deductible.)
