Since the recent rains, we have had several leaks in the church. One of two major leaks is located on the roof, close to the skylight. The other is next to the men’s restroom in the office that is used by the Korean church as a storeroom; water leaked through the wall and onto the carpet as far away as the narthex.
The first leak is being repaired by T-Mobile because the leak is affecting their antenna operation. (T-Mobile recently purchased all of the transmitter towers operated by Cingular Wireless in California, as part of the Cingular/AT&T Wireless merger.)
The other location, near the narthex, will be up to the church to remedy. This will likely involve doing extensive drainage work in the planter next to the welcoming kiosk.
We have also noticed that two large trees on the east end of the property were leaning badly. After the heavy rains softened the ground, one of the trees had a separation gap between the ground and the trunk of about ½ inch. After consultation with two tree experts, both agreed that the one tree with the separation was in immediate danger of falling. The other tree was at an elevated risk of falling, due the extreme angle at which it stood. Just before the subsequent storm hit, we had the trees removed. While the tree service was there, the trunk of the willow tree that had fallen in December was removed also.
The east end of our property looks fairly bare at the moment, without its usual trees. I am hopeful that we will be able to replace the two large trees removed with new trees in the near future.
