Sunday Forum, at 9 a.m., tackles topics

Did you know that the Canons of the Episcopal Church make it clear that it is the duty of every Christian to make a will, have advanced directives in place, and make provision for the care of those who are dependent on you? Did you know that the Episcopal Church has special prayers for those facing the difficult decisions connected with end-of-life issues or that it is the intention of the church that no one should have to face these decisions or the end of their life alone? Those are just some of the things that were discussed in the Sunday Forum between services. Other topics have included the Windsor Report, the position of the Episcopal Church in the Anglican Communion and how our church polity (the sharing of power between the bishops, clergy and laity) requires us to respond to the other churches of the Communion, and how the ordained ministry is a sacrament (a visible, outward sign) of the ministry we are all called to as baptised Christians.

The Sunday Forum is a place where questions are answered, stories are told, and where we all learn more about the Church, and the lives we as Christians are called to lead. Upcoming topics in May will include looking at the creation stories in Genesis (did you know that there are two different stories in the first two chapters and evidence of a third later in Genesis?) and comparing them to the Creation Story the captive Judeans heard in Babylon; and a special session for parents, godparents, grandparents, aunts and uncles on “Speaking to Children about God” —the first of an occasional series.

The Sunday Forum meets at 9 a.m. in the North Room. See Rick Whittaker or Peter if you have questions or suggestions about future topics.
