THE VICAR’S VOICE
New faces in Children’s Center, office
I am excited to tell you about two new people who are working for Saint Andrew’s. Let me begin by welcoming Sue Ko as the new Director of the Children’s Center. Sue is not new to this community. She has spent the last two and a half years as a consultant with us here at Saint Andrew’s. Sue comes to us with a wealth of experience in working with early childhood programs. Her résumé includes working as the Director at Good Shepherd Lutheran Preschool and also as an Executive Director involved in the restructure and expansion of a private non-profit agency serving 400 Head Start, state- funded and United Way–funded children. She has also worked as a design consultant to more than 30 early childhood environments that have become national models. I believe Sue is just what we need here Saint Andrew’s, and I feel blessed to have her as our new Children’s Center director.
GENERAL CONVENTION 2006
In Columbus, here’s how it all comes together
By GREGORY STRAUB, Executive Officer of General Convention
With few precedents a republican form of church governance the first General Convention met in 1785 in Philadelphia. That convention began work on a constitution and a revision of the Book of Common Prayer, the church’s book of worship. Within ten years the General Convention had agreed on its form of governance and its pattern of worship, both of which endure to the present day.
TEXAS BECKONS
Joy, tears at Glenda’s farewell
Long-time Children’s Center director Glenda Akers retired on May 19th after over 20 years of service to the Children’s Center. A festive retirement party was held after the 10 o’clock service on Sunday, May 21. Many of the people Glenda worked with during her years at the Children’s Center, as well as many who knew her as part of the Saint Andrew’s congregation, were there to honor her loving ministry with children. We’ll have photos and more details of Glenda’s years with us and what her new life in San Antonio, Texas will bring in next month’s issue.
OUTREACH
Help Manor residents start their day right
For June we will be collecting breakfast items such as breakfast bars, instant coffee and tea bags, small juice boxes of apple juice, individual serving sizes of cereal (oatmeal or dry-cereal snack packs). From these items, breakfast boxes will be put together for the seniors at the Woodbridge Manor. Thanks for your support.
BREAKFAST ON THE 24TH
Ruby’s again? Yes, but this time it’s for the Men’s Group meeting
Ruby’s Diner on Barranca once again figures in the lives of Saint Andrew’s parishioners, but for a different reason. Following our successful fundraiser of June 8th, where 20% of the bill for parishioners’ meals went to Saint Andrew’s, the men of Saint Andrew’s plot their return to Ruby’s on Saturday, June 24. (Ruby’s keeps the profits, this time.)
The Men’s Group will be holding their monthly breakfast meeting at Ruby’s at 8 a.m. on that Saturday morning. Enjoy a morning of fellowship with the other fellows on the 24th. See you there!

SUMMER SIZZLE
Blue skies ahead for June 25th’s outdoor ‘Mass on the Grass’
Fair is the moonlight, fairer still the sunshine... We’ve moved our annual Earth Day “Mass on the Grass” celebration to June 25, the better to avoid the rain that moved us inside last year.

SUNDAY, JUNE 18
Appreciation Sunday: A time to honor all our ministries
Let’s honor our graduates, our hard-working Sunday School teachers, and all those who provide important ministries in the church on Appreciation Sunday, which will be in two weeks on June 18th. See you there!
Summer’s just around the corner—Camp Stevens awaits kids, families
Journey to Julian this summer to see what Camp Stevens has to offer kids, families, singles—whoever you are, there’s bound to be a summer camp program you’ll like. Brochures for this Episcopal campground are available in the narthex.
