THE VICAR’S VOICE
Waiting for those ocean breezes
I know this is not true, but I have to say it anyway. This summer has felt like the hottest summer I have ever experienced. It is definitely not the time to have your air conditioner goes bad, but such is life in the Browning household. Melissa reminded me the other day that I say the same thing every summer, but it feels like we are setting weather records every day. I know I am not alone on this. It has been pretty hot, but we will survive. The humidity will break, temperatures will come down, and the ocean breeze will cool us all down. It just feels really hot right this minute.
OUR JUNE 25 CELEBRATION
‘Lunch on the Lawn’ follows annual ‘Mass on the Grass’
Saint Andrew’s annual celebration of Earth Day and the glories of God’s creation moved from chance-of-rainy April to sunny June 25th this year. After the 10 o’clock Eucharist, which was held outdoors on the lawn underneath a panoply of portable awnings to provide shade when the sun finally appeared on a partially “June gloom”-y morning, participants picnicked on the lawn with potlucked provisions.

FALL FUNDRAISER THEME
‘La nostra bella chiesa’
No need to get out the Berlitz book or log on to Babelfish: It’s Italian for ‘our beautiful church,’ and your contributions will help make it so.
Save the date for our second annual fall fundraiser dinner to benefit Saint Andrew’s continuing “Revive and Restore the Sanctuary” project: Saturday, September 23, 2006. Once again guests will enjoy Italian food and ambience at Antonello Ristorante. Invitations will be mailed late summer, with ticket sales to follow at church services. Church members are encouraged to donate their time or talents for the silent auction; please contact Debbie Foret if you’d like to participate.
SATURDAY, JULY 22: 8 A.M.
It’s turned into a habit: Men’s Group keeps its once-a-month Ruby’s fix
The Men’s Group of Saint Andrew’s meets monthly for breakfast and good fellowship at Ruby’s diner on Barranca (in the shopping center a block south east of church, across from the lake). Our next gathering will be at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 22nd. There is no specific agenda or requirement to RSVP; just come. For further information, please contact Ted Wright (949.856.2592 or cewright@uci.edu).
VBS kids join ‘The Ark Adventure’
Vacation Bible School, for children from preschool through junior high, takes place July 24–28, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Children in preschool through junior high are invited to join in “The Ark Adventure.” There will be music, stories, crafts, games and snacks. Please call or stop by the church office (949.559.4699 or office@standrewsirvine.org) to register for the program.

WORLD PERSPECTIVE
In Columbus, the other North American Anglicans observe
At the Episcopal Church’s General Convention in June, a delegation from the Anglican Church of Canada sits in on meetings and shares their experiences.
By SOLANGE DeSANTIS, Anglican Journal
A dozen or so visitors from the Anglican Church of Canada, including the Primate, Archbishop Andrew Hutchison, have attended the June meeting of the 75th General Convention of the Episcopal Church (ECUSA) in various capacities and have viewed the triennial meeting from a unique perspective.
