Twiddlebugs and Stewardship
By TED WRIGHT, Stewardship Chair
When my daughters were younger, Nina and I read to them a children’s story about twiddlebugs. The twiddlebugs lived, as I recall, in a flower planter and hibernated through the winter. Each Spring they would awake with the warm weather and realize that they had not seen each other all winter, so they had a parade. Half of the twiddlebugs would march and the other half would watch. In this way, each twiddlebug was able to see half of their friends. After the parade, there was a large picnic that gave the twiddlebugs who had not yet seen each other a chance to do so.

Get Away to Idyllwild This July!
M
ark your calendars now! July 23–25 will be our annual mountain getaway in beautiful Idyllwild—just two hours from Irvine, yet eons away! What a chance to join with your Saint Andrew’s family in the fresh air and pines of this mountain community. Chances abound for browsing through the shops in town, hiking the trails in the nearby forest, having Saturday dinner together and worshiping on Sunday morning.

NEWS & NOTES: 2 Saints to Their Creator Returned
Saint Andrew’s had two of our saints return to their Creator during May: Margaret Hennes, mother of Pati Rodrigues, died on May 6 following emergency colon surgery and Tom Olson, husband of Georgie and father of Tom, Jr. and Jon, died following heart failure on May 21. Both were buried at Fairhaven Memorial in Santa Ana. Please keep these families in your prayers.

Choir Dinner Set for June 13
Save Sunday evening, June 13 for an evening of music from Broadway musicals featuring our adult and youth choirs as well as special groups and soloists. There will also be food fit for the occasion. Selections will come from such musicals as "The Sound of Music," "Showboat" and "South Pacific." . . . The youth choir will be interacting with Fr. Gordon in selections from "Oliver" for a couple of the numbers they will be doing. Their addition to the presentations made by the adult choir promise to make this event one of the highlights of the church fellowship events . . . . In addition to the fellowship that we will enjoy, the event is a way to raise money for those special needs of the music ministry such as instrumentalists for special occasions such as Easter, new music for both the youth and adult choirs over-and-above the church budget, and so on . . . . See you all there!

4th of July Picnic Planning
It’s time to begin planning for the annual Saint Andrew’s old fashioned Fourth of July Picnic. We need volunteers for games and activities for youngsters and oldsters. We also need some game items themselves, such as water slides, volleyball nets, and the like. If you would like to volunteer some time and/or equipment, please contact Pati Rodrigues at 714.731.0913.

Oh, Grads! Pictures, Please!
Photos are requested from all recent graduates, so that we can post them in the Narthex. Please indicate which school you have graduated from along with your photo.

‘Everything That Happens Is a Gift from God
One of our children recently made a decision that caused me to pause, and get angry, and get resentful, and want desperately to tell him or her just how wrong the decision was, and all the reasons he or she should change it back to how it was "supposed" to be. I carried this around with me for several days, and it ate away at me like a cancer. Several times I picked up the phone to call, but put it down with the number undialed. Or better yet, I tried to get Adelle to call and explain the reasons the wrong decision had been made.

Your Hand in Prayer
I ran across this and believe it can be an aid in our daily prayers. --Leland
1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to ones to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."
