The North Room gets a makeover
RENOVATION Ripping out the carpet and buffing the floor commences on Sept. 13. And that’s just for starters.
Huddled to the side of the sanctuary, the North Room has never been one of Saint Andrew’s finer architectural features. But that’s all about to change. By the end of the year, this haven for sobbing babies and local support groups will be outfitted with a new floor, new furniture, and a new color scheme. In keeping with our ongoing process of transformation, it will even be getting a new name: the Memorial Room.
Homecoming on Holy Cross
SEPT. 14 We’ll bless the new altar frontal, then stay for the picnic.
There’s no place like homeand no time like Sunday, Sept. 14, for our annual Homecoming Sunday. While we can’t promise a homecoming queen or a football scrimmage with a cross-town rival, we will be kicking off this year’s fall programs and stewardship campaign on that day, as well as registering the junior varsity for Sunday school.
SOON IT’S STEWARDSHIP SEASON
Returning the fruits of our labors to God
The end of summer means the beginning of Harvesttide and the gathering of God’s bounty. Admittedly, it’s unlikely that anyone at Saint Andrew’s is actually bringing in the sheaves at this time of year, but even in suburban Irvine we can still honor the natural and sacred harvest process by returning some of the fruit of our labors to God. In a few short weeks, our annual stewardship campaign will be under way. Now is a good time to begin reflecting uponand praying aboutwhat you might give to the church in the year to come. Pledging any part of your income expresses both gratitude for the present and faith in the future. Think about it!
Presenting our profile
As the bishop prepares to appoint a vicar, here’s what we have prepared to introduce Saint Andrew’s, both to the bishop and to prospective clergy.

| Pilgrims touch the porch of the former Varner's Cash Store in Hayneville, Alabama, where Episcopal seminarian Jonathan Myrick Daniels was killed on Aug. 20, 1965. |
“This is where the blood of the martyr was spilled,” called out Bishop Philip Duncan of the Diocese of Central Gulf Coast, and scores of men, women, and children, black and white, surged silently forward to lay their hands on the rough concrete of the storefront porch in Hayneville, Alabama, where Episcopal seminarian Jonathan Myrick Daniels was slain by a shotgun blast on Aug. 20, 1965.
